The Daily Schachzeit

“You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.”

-Mikhail Tal, RIP to a real one

Schachzeits are a new kind of chess puzzle that focus on seeing a position broadly, not just deeply. The goal of each puzzle is to find and categorize every possible move for a given position, fully understanding the position's possibilities.

Each possible move in the position can be either Bad, Okay, Good, or one of the Best moves. Every move is relative to the Best move in the position, so a strong move might be considered only Okay if there was a checkmate available.

A new puzzle is posted every day and once you submit your answer you get a detailed explanation of the solution. The Stockfish Chess engine (version 16) and a variation of the Chess.com classification rules to find and evaluate the puzzles and their solutions. An example of a solved puzzle can be found here.

Schachzeit is created by me, Zack Maril, and is a work in progress. I'm relatively new to chess, only having picked up the game seriously in 2022, and solving and creating these Schachzeits is one of the ways I'm trying to improve. My goal is to break 2000 ELO on Chess.com in the next few years and I've got a ways to go.
